My name is Richard de Laat.
This is why I built this.

My father was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes the year I was born. He managed it for 25 years — with medication, with dietary restrictions, with everything the conventional model offered. The disease progressed anyway. He died with serious diabetic neuropathy. I grew up in a household where "no sugar in your coffee" was not a preference. It was a rule.

That was my introduction to metabolic disease. It would not be my last.

A Pattern I Could Not Ignore

Years later, within a short period, I lost my brother at 64 and my sister at 62 — both to cancer. My sister was a GP. She knew medicine from the inside. It didn't protect her. My mother went the same way, at 80.

"I grew up in a family where cancer was not bad luck — it was a pattern."

When a pattern shows up that clearly, you have two choices: accept it as fate, or go looking for what the conventional model is missing.

I went looking. I worked through more than 50 books on diet, metabolic disease, cancer research, and the science of nutrition. Not summaries — the books themselves, the studies, the underlying mechanisms. What I found was not a single answer, but a coherent picture that the mainstream conversation was largely ignoring.

That process is what eventually became the Diet Power Secrets guide — and the NKFB protocol.

Who I Am

Richard de Laat — The Healing Pharmacist

I studied pharmacy and marketing in the Netherlands, and spent the better part of two decades inside the pharmaceutical industry — first at IMS (now IQVIA), where I set up a panel of 75 pharmacies to analyse medication switch patterns and built post-marketing surveillance units in the Netherlands and Belgium. Then at Roche in Basel, where I ran data management, global training, and eventually leadership development for 250 senior leaders across the organisation.

I understood from the inside how the industry tracks, measures, and manages chronic disease. What I also understood — increasingly — is what it does not do. It manages symptoms. It rarely addresses root causes. The data I spent years analysing showed the same patients cycling through medications for conditions that are, at their core, metabolic.

When Roche brought in a new CEO and my position was eliminated, I had something I had not had in years: time. I used it to go through more than 50 books on diet, metabolic disease, and cancer research — properly, not as summaries. That research is what became the Diet Power Secrets guide.

I later returned to Roche as an organisational change consultant, working on the reorganisation of their global Pharma IT and DIA IT organisations and supporting dozens of change initiatives until I took early retirement. I stopped consulting about a year ago. The NKFB protocol is one of the things I am now giving proper attention.

I trained in NLP, Hypnosis, and TimeLine Therapy in England and the United States under the Tad James method — which is why the NKFB programme addresses the psychological dimension of change alongside the metabolic one. Knowing what to do is rarely the problem. Doing it consistently is. That gap is where NLP works.

I Am Living This Protocol

I am not writing about this from the outside. I am in it.

I follow the NKFB protocol myself — not as a demonstration, but because it works. The research that went into the book changed how I eat, how I think about fuel, and how I manage my own metabolic health. That is not marketing language. It is the honest reason the protocol exists in the form it does.

The goal is not to look a certain way. It is to have a metabolism that functions correctly — one that burns fat efficiently, keeps hunger manageable, and supports the kind of neurological health that protects against the pattern I grew up watching.

What I Have Written

The Diet Power Secrets guide is the core text — 99 pages covering the metabolic science behind the NKFB protocol, available in English and German on Amazon. The complete programme extends this across eight modules: a 28-day meal plan, 107 recipes with full macros, goal setting, progress tracking, meditation, and more.

I have also written a dedicated booklet on Parkinson's Alternative Approaches — currently available in German, with an English translation in progress. The brain health dimension of this work is personal, not academic.
